Caunton is presently working on building facilities for Teva, a company which is among the top twenty pharmaceutical companies in the world, and undoubtedly the biggest in generic products.
Earlier this year, Teva announced plans to relocate its head office and logistics centre to a brand new, purpose built site near Castleford, West Yorkshire. The new building, including a 200,000ft² of warehouse and 60,000ft² of office space, has a capacity no less than five times bigger than Teva’s current site, with floor space covering the equivalent of three football pitches. The main contractor is Winvic Construction Ltd who is constructing the new buildings for TEVA on behalf of the developer ProLogis.
The facility will be the company’s main UK distribution hub, significantly expanding and strengthening its supply chain warehouse and logistics activity. The highly automated, state-of-the-art systems will bring benefits in terms of both supply and service. The company says that the move is on track, and the new site should be fully operational during the first part of 2009.
It all comes as part of Teva’s increased investment in the UK. Last year, it created a respiratory and regulatory Centre of Excellence in Harlow, and is also planning other investments in the UK. Caunton would like to help with these new developments too of course!
Teva proudly boast -“we estimate that on average every second, of every day, over 200 tablets or capsules supplied by us are taken by patients all around the UK. In fact, we like to think of ourselves as the nation's medicine cabinet.” Quite some statistic.
