Engineers from BDP study engineering practices at Caunton

A group of six engineers from BDP (Building Design Partnership) recently visited Caunton’s office and works, in order to broaden their knowledge of the structural steelwork design process.

BDP (Building Design Partnership) are one of the largest architects and engineering practices in the UK. Founded in 1961 the company now employ more than 1,200 employees across15 locations in the UK, France, Ireland and the Netherlands.

When they wanted to teach their engineers about structural steelwork, and techniques of welding in particular, they approached Caunton. The visit was part of a training programme undertaken by BDP’s civil and structural engineers to help explore new techniques and increase creativity in their day-to-day work. Caunton were glad to be of assistance.

Kristian Holness-Dove, Graduate Structural Engineer at BDP, commented; “The day was really beneficial. It helped give me a better grasp of the processes and preparation of structural steel before transportation to site. It also helped demonstrate some of the practical limitations which without explanation and attempting ourselves might otherwise be over looked.”

Caunton are currently working alongside BDP on the current Newbury Parkway contract for main contractor Costain for which Caunton is fabricating, supplying and erecting almost 1,800 tonnes of structural steelwork for the first phase alone.
