Another Sainsbury’s store framed by Caunton

Caunton are currently completing the erection of the steelwork for a new £7.5million Sainsbury's store in Westhoughton, Lancashire. The company is working for main contractor Bowmer and Kirkland.

The retail chain is opening a new 25,000sq ft supermarket on the site of the old Westhoughton Cricket Club. The Cricket Club, which was built in 1937, has been relocated to a new state-of-the-art ground which has been named the St George’s Oval.

The plans for the store include partly powering the site with three 15-metre high wind turbines. The steelwork itself comprises an environmentally friendly north light roof design. Store chiefs are expecting it to open in March 2010.
