Peter Brett Associates' Engineers learn welding skills

Peter Brett Associates are one of the country's highly regarded consulting practices - developer of the "parallel beam approach" for steelwork, and engineers on the important Cardington Fire Tests which incidentally employed steelwork by Caunton. A team of their engineers were invited to visit the Caunton Works and Engineering Departments to increase their knowledge of steelwork engineering, and of manufacture in particular. The photo shows five of the engineers in Caunton's Academy experiencing welding training. They are being coached by Cameron Harris, Academy Manager(second left), and assisted by Billy Boyce a first year apprentice( in blue). They seem pleased with their handiwork.
This familiarisation course is run by Caunton to encourage engineers and architects at first hand to appreciate the strengths and flexibility, and limitations too, of using steel in their designs.
