Another Tesco Store framed by Caunton

Hednesford in Staffordshire is going through a change with some help from Caunton Engineering. The new community facility will replace the Aquarius ballroom, which was demolished to make way for the new Victoria Shopping Park in Hednesford, which will feature an 80,000 sq. ft. Tesco store and a parade of seven retail units, as well as a new community facility. Caunton is supplying the steelwork for the framing of these structures. Caunton is working for Vinci Construction UK Ltd, part of the eponymous major national and international contractor. The Client is the Council's development partner St Modwen .
Caunton are designing the steelwork for both the Tesco Store and the Community Centre. Steelwork comprises just under a thousand tonnes- and Caunton are supplying and erecting this as part of their contract.
Hednesford was an important coal mining community for over a century. This is commemorated in the town centre, where a Miner's Lamp has been erected, surrounded by a wall with individual bricks giving the names of former miners. The oldest sections of the town surround the hilltop areas of the existing town; however, the lower part of the town became the focal point as the community grew with the mining industry. In many respects, Hednesford has much in common with Moorgreen where Caunton are based. This former mining area, described so vividly in the novels of DH Lawrence who grew up there, has also been transformed into what is now a successful industrial and trading area. In fact, this was developed in the first place, in 1992, by Caunton Engineering, who are now working in what were the Coal Board maintenance facilities, now substantially renovated.
