Caunton contributing to oil drilling in Nigeria – but via South Korea.

Caunton has manufactured the Support Structure for a Rolls-Royce manufactured Combustion Intake and Exhaust. This is a component of a massive oil platform being built for Total. The steelwork‘s final destination is the Ofon Oil Field in Nigeria. A slight diversion though for Caunton’s’ steelwork – the steelwork was shipped initially to Ulsan in South Korea to be erected onto the drilling platform being assembled there. The photo shows the fully operational platform, including Caunton’s steelwork, setting sail from Hyundai’s Ulsan ship yard

The project has involved all departments of Caunton at various times and included a works applied four coat paint system. In addition the structure was fully trial erected in Caunton’s yard and then final erection supervised by a Caunton erection manager in Korea. Quite some operation!
