Caunton-framed The Curve wins Top Thames Valley Property Award

Caunton Engineering were delighted when one of their most difficult framing projects, The Curve, the new civic building in Slough, won the Thames Valley Property Awards “Development of the Year” for 2017. As the name suggests, the structure is a steel-framed curved rectangle in shape and plan. Each of the building’s elevations feature either cantilevers or sloping and curving facades, with the main north side presenting the most striking aspect with a long sweeping, predominantly glazed, elevation looking on to the adjacent listed St Ethelbert’s Church. The fabrication of the curved steelwork was aided enormously by the skilful use of BIM and the associated 3-D modelling . With an overall floor space of 4,500 square metres, the centre includes a library, café, office space and a 280-seat performance space. The Awards ceremony reported to be the biggest property event in the region outside London was staged at Ascot Racecourse.
