February’s New Steel Construction reported progress with the new nautical themed shopping centre extension in Eastbourne, to be renamed The Beacon, and Caunton’s involvement (Caunton web site news 19 February) . The March edition amplifies this and features an in-depth article highlighting the method by which Caunton is working with main contractor, Kier, to enlarge the mall’s existing multi- storey car park.

The article states -
“ The original six-storey concrete framed car park is having two extra levels added to its top. In order to minimize the weight on the existing foundations a steel-framed solution, supporting over 9000 sq metres of metal decking, is being used.”
Steel’s excellent Strength-to-Weight properties are bringing a sizeable benefit to the project.
