HS2 progress requires a new Caunton steel-framed car park

Caunton Engineering are supplying and erecting the structural steelwork to main contractor Expanded Ltd for a new replacement multi-storey Car Park for the West Midlands Fire Service in Birmingham. The reason for replacement is that the existing one lies on land needing to be freed up to allow a new HS2 approach viaduct to pass through.
HS2 Ltd reported in a recent press release - "We will be building a new car park. As we continue to prepare for the construction of the railway along the line of the route, we’ll have to replace the existing West Midlands Fire Service car park."
The footprint of the new Car Park will be smaller than the original one, but will accommodate a similar number of car parking spaces, as the new building rises five storeys- previously two.
This contract joins a growing number of steel framed car parks designed and supplied by Caunton. Clearly by using steel framing and then incorporating steel decking – both of which were supplied here by the Caunton team - speed of construction can prove a great benefit to clients
