Caunton Training Academy - Now Open

This is a new venture, proposed at the Production Conference in July and approved by the Board of Directors, which is being set up specifically to provide a tailored training programme for workshop personnel.

It is an exciting and important initiative which the Board believes will help address the issue of skill shortages within the industry and more importantly help Caunton Engineering to grow and prosper. The Academy is being set up in part of the Yellow line.

Jimmy State has been appointed to the new post of Training Academy Manager. He will have overall responsibility for the training and development of apprentices, supported by the HR team and working closely with other managers and external training providers.

The Academy opened for business on Tuesday the 2nd of November 2004 and provides training for:

New apprentices joining the Company

Existing employees who wish to increase their level of skill

Employees from other areas of the business who will spend a period of time here as part of their Production department experience

Apprentices will work 4 days a week at Moorgreen and undertake City & Guilds and NVQ studies on a day-release basis at West Notts College. They will also be given the opportunity to gain an appreciation of other parts of the business during their training period.

The Academy started with a total of 6 apprentices, 3 new-starters and 3 existing employees:

New starters Anthony Carline, Andrew Macmillan and Craig Morris, who is going to train to become a CNC operator.

Existing employees - Paul Anthony, Wayne Fellows and Chris Wardle.

I'm sure everyone will share the Boards commitment to this venture and give their full support to both Jimmy and the apprentices.
