Caunton supplied over a thousand tonnes of structural steelwork for a new campus style development for major high street banking giant Northern Rock plc. Caunton worked for major contractor Bowmer and Kirkland on this design and build project, for a four storey office building at the Rainton Bridge South Business Park near Sunderland. This development is planned to be in two phases, while Caunton worked only on the 250,000sq. feet first phase. The second phase is reported to be of the order of 150,000sq feet.
Rainton Bridge South is a new business park being developed by the City of Sunderland Council to accommodate the next generation of office-based businesses. The business park will eventually attract investment totalling £100 million and generate more than 4,000 high quality jobs. A total of 80,000 sq.m. of office accommodation is planned. Goodman (formerly Akeler Developments Ltd.) has been appointed as preferred developer for the site

Northern Rock plc whose roots are firmly in the North East announced its intention to invest £60 million in the creation of this new campus-style development on Rainton Bridge South, totalling 40,000 sq.m. This took its local workforce from 850 to 2,000 over a two year period.

Caunton congratulates Bowmer and Kirkland for following on their great success with Cobalt Business Park (see earlier Caunton Web Site News) which is “just up the road” so to speak in Newcastle, with the building of yet another major business park, Rainton Bridge South Business Park.
