Caunton Engineering completed their second contract for the expanding Routeco Business Park near Milton Keynes in early 2009.

The Park was developed by Routeco plc who are one of the UK’s leading suppliers of industrial control and automation products, and these include exclusive distribution rights for Rockwell Automation’s Allen-Bradley brand. The first building employing Caunton’s steelwork was erected in 2000 and now serves as the headquarters of this increasingly important company.

This second building, where Caunton were working for main contractor Winvic Construction, required 235 tonnes of structural steelwork.

The three storey beam and column office block provided 44,240 sq.ft. of new office space. Designed by Architects Woods Hardwick, the new offices are planned with a particular emphasis placed upon the high energy efficiency and sustainability of the building. The £6m office block provides open plan and cellular office space to maximise the use of natural daylight and ventilation in addition to full height glazing to elevations, and with the external elevations richly articulated to provide a contemporary aesthetic. With sustainability a key requirement, the building achieved a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM rating. It also results in an extremely pleasing appearance.
