Caunton are supplying the structural steelwork for a major new 15,000sq metre facility at the new i54 Enterprise Zone near Wolverhampton. The company has won the design and build contract from top contractor McLaren Construction, to design, fabricate and erect over 800te of structural steelwork for a major facility for Moog.

Moog (pronounced to rhyme with vogue!) is best known for the Moog Synthesiser invented by the eponymous founder of the company. However since then, the company has grown out of all recognition. Moog is now a worldwide designer, manufacturer, and integrator of precision control components and systems. Moog's high-performance systems control military and commercial aircraft, satellites and space vehicles, launch vehicles, missiles, automated industrial machinery, marine applications, and medical equipment. Their latest headline - signing a new 5 year contract with SCX Special Projects, Sheffield, UK to continue its support of the motion control system for the Wimbledon Centre Court Retractable Roof, London until August 2015.

In this particular instance, Moog is moving its Wolverhampton flight controls business from the current location on Wobaston Road Wolverhampton, to a new-build facility on the i54 technology park, safeguarding approximately 400 jobs for the region.

The structural skeleton itself encompasses three portal frame bays- each 42.6 metre span with a 16 metre lean-to extension, and the building is overall 104 metres long. The project is programmed for completion in September 2012.
