Caunton working for major national building contractor, Costain, has now completed construction of steelwork for the structural frames of two major London school developments. The particular schools are the Addey and Stanhope School and the Prendergast Hillyfields school, and they are part of the London Borough of Lewisham’s BSF programme.

Costain is part of the Learning21 consortium, delivering this BSF programme. This is designed to modernise the Borough's education infrastructure. Learning21 was established in response to the Building Schools for the Future programme that aims to enhance education standards and the role of schools in the local communities. Costain is also the design and build contractor for the Lewisham BSF programme.

Steelwork for the new Addey and Stanhope School building, which comprises a sports hall plus improved dining and library facilities, is due to open in the 2012 summer term. The school which goes back to 1606 is now a specialist science and technology establishment. Caunton supplied over 100te of steelwork, some offsite intumescent coated, and this designed by international consulting engineering practice Ramboll.

Caunton's record can now show an impressively comprehensive geographical spread for supplying school buildings–in the north, the midlands and now the south of England. Please see earlier web site news items for many examples.
