ASOS sells both branded fashion goods and its own range of clothes and sales per annum have reached over £700million. The company had based its distribution centre in 2010 in a huge existing warehouse at a unit between Grimethorpe and Great Houghton, Yorkshire, on the site of the old Houghton Main colliery. Now it plans expansion there.

Main contractor Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd secured the order for the project and Caunton are contracted to design and supply the structural steelwork. A logical decision as Buckingham and Caunton had constructed the original building back in 2006.

Caunton supplied over 700te of structural steelwork for two extensions of 75,000 and 65,000 sq. ft.to this existing unit near Barnsley. The buildings will be 19m high internally. These Extensions are to the gable and side of the existing high bay warehouse. Strengthening works are also required to the existing structure to accommodate additional snow loading from the higher extension and these works have been planned to be carried out ‘out of hours’ and in a carefully planned manner in order to minimise disruption.
