Caunton were contracted to main contractor Bowmer and Kirkland to provide the frame for a Data Centre for the Norwich Union Insurance Company, now part of Aviva. Caunton designed and fabricated over 1300te of steelwork for Caunton’s second experience in building data centres during that period, after the one in Basingstoke – see Sector Section of Caunton’s web site. . The project comprised three buildings – the main warehouse 70 metres wide and 208 metres long, a data hall 41 metres by 87.5 metres long and a two storey office block 9.7 metres x 36 metres. There is an office area within the main warehouse approx. 16.8 m x 70.0m at 1st floor with a 2nd floor/roof over approx. 16.8 m x 70.0 m above. In addition there is a mezzanine area 22.5 metres by 192 metres in the main warehouse. The photograph shows the main warehouse under construction.

Subsequently the site was purchased by a local IT specialist MIGSOLV who refurbished the buildings and converted them into what was then the largest carrier neutral facility in East Anglia.

As part of the increased use of cloud computing services, data centers like this provide businesses with scalable, reliable and resilient IT resources to give more efficient customer facing services and to ensure the continuity of their businesses.
