Bolsover school contract – another BSF school to add to Caunton’s list

The school in question is Bolsover School in Derbyshire.

Caunton are fast becoming one of the industry leader’s in constructing schools and along the way the company have worked on some award winning ones too.
Caunton have received the order from Bowmer and Kirkland for the connection design, supply and erection of 415 tonnes of structural steelwork. This is to be built in three phases within a compact nine week period.

The new school is set to replace the original 1950’s building and has been specifically designed to reflect the town’s history. As the architect’s impression shows here, the entrance elevation is designed to create a sense of arrival and sense of purpose. The massive, solid anthracite bookend on the left remembers Bolsover’s Coal Mining heritage and the sold, ancient values on which the community is founded. The transparent glazed wall on the right holds a statement of the school’s values and encourages entry and exploration.

The regenerated Bolsover School is part of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme. Caunton has already been most active in this government strategy with supplying quality steelwork for the Derby, Northampton, Oldham, Sheffield and Doncaster BSF (or PFI) programmes, and the on-going Nottingham BSF programme too for which the company is working on two new academies. In fact Caunton is currently active in many education projects – the two Nottingham ones Bulwell Academy and Nottingham University Samworth Academy plus the Samworth Church Academy in Mansfield, Hereford Technology School in Grimsby and Kingswood Secondary School in Corby.
