WSP engineers visit Caunton’s works and studied steelwork fabrication methods.

Caunton were pleased to welcome a team of fifteen graduate engineers from major consulting engineering practice WSP. The graduates -3 to 4 years from graduating - were from various WSP offices – London, Exeter, Manchester, and Birmingham. Some of these young men and women had even worked on the iconic structure The Shard for which WSP is so renowned and admired. The engineers were to learn how a structural steelwork contractor operates – thorough visits to the works and a presentation by Deputy Managing Director, Matt Shimwell, featuring among other things the interface between the engineer and the steelwork contractor, and how they can understand and help each other. They also were given the opportunity to learn the practical skills of welding using the welding equipment supplied on site in the accredited Caunton Training Academy under the watchful eye of the Academy supervisor. The photograph shows the team with, second from left, Caunton Business Development Director, Steve Waterhouse who was responsible for this most successful event.
