Caunton sponsoring the 2019 University of Nottingham ‘Engineering Excellence and Innovation Award’

Caunton Engineering is a company that recognizes and values engineering excellence and innovation, and are therefore very pleased to be sponsoring the 2019, University of Nottingham, ‘Engineering Excellence and Innovation Award’.

To win the award, final year MEng and MSc students were set a demanding brief - to design a building that would contain both an Ice Rink and an Olympic Swimming Pool, complete with spectator viewing area. The winning design can be seen on the video below and demonstrates a truly imaginative and innovative structure. Caunton congratulates the winning team, who were presented with their award by Matthew Shimwell, Caunton’s Managing Director, at their University Graduation Ceremony this month.

Caunton believes it has a responsibility to encourage and support the next generation of engineers employed both within and outside the company. With this in mind, Caunton runs both a graduate training programme, which is approved by the Institution of Civil Engineers for Incorporated and Chartered engineers; and since 2004, has run an internal accredited training academy for fabrication and welding apprentices. Both have proved to be extremely successful in delivering highly talented people into the business. In addition, throughout the year there are works visits and tours for students, consulting engineers, main contractors and architects. This is complemented by guest lectures, CPD sessions, mentoring and our very popular welding competition for visitors!
