The Institution of Structural Engineers has been hosting an e- conference on the modern uses of steel from 22 – 24 November 2022. This three half-day e-conference explores how to use steel in an effective and sustainable way. Industry leaders from BCSA, Arup, COWI and SCI - among many others - share best practice in design, fabrication and reuse.

Matthew Shimwell, Managing Director, Caunton Engineering spoke at the conference how optimisation and rationalisation can affect the fabrication and procurement process, and explored how the benefits of early engagement can help achieve the optimum solution.

The backdrop to the conference is the climate emergency but the focus is on efficient design and fabrication and on structural steel reuse, refurbishment and design for deconstruction.
