The UK's first Mobility Hub - steelwork by Caunton

Caunton Engineering have been awarded the contract by main contractor Bowmer and Kirkland for the structural steelwork for what will be the UK's first Mobility Hub. This development will be located in Ancoats in Manchester. The Hub is a new concept in urban design, a multi-storey car park offering electric vehicle chargers, car share clubs and cycle hire. It is being developed in a partnership between Manchester City Council and Manchester Life. The scheme promises to help Ancoats be a place where people are prioritised over cars and supports Manchester's ambition to become zero carbon by 2038. This will also enable the City Council, Great Places and Manchester Life to deliver homes that will use the Hub for parking - reducing vehicle movement around the neighbourhood and allowing more development space to be allocated for active street front and community spaces. The work has now started on building this structure. The architect for this exciting scheme is Manchester based Buttress Architects. The development is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. Caunton are designing, supplying and erecting over 700te of steelwork, along with the supplying and fixing of the metal decking. The company are delighted to be involved with such an impressively sustainable project.
