Designers Gain Hands-On Welding Experience at Caunton Engineering

Caunton Engineering recently welcomed a group of designers from Buro Happold for an engaging and informative Welding Day, providing a valuable opportunity to bridge the gap between design and fabrication.

The day began with a technical presentation and a tour of our manufacturing and paint facilities, giving attendees a behind-the-scenes look at the processes involved in transforming structural steel designs into finished steelwork. The visit helped connect their day-to-day design responsibilities with the practical realities of fabrication and production.

A highlight of the day was a hands-on welding session delivered by our Training Academy team and apprentices. Participants had the opportunity to try welding for themselves, gaining first-hand experience of the skill, precision and expertise required to produce high-quality welds.

Reflecting on the visit, attendees commented on how valuable it was to see their designs brought to life and develop a greater appreciation of the craftsmanship involved in steel fabrication. They also praised the patience, enthusiasm and guidance provided by our Training Academy team and apprentices throughout the session.

The group extended their thanks to everyone involved in organising the day, particularly for the warm hospitality and willingness to share knowledge and answer questions. They left with a deeper understanding of the fabrication process and plenty of insights to take back into their engineering roles.

At Caunton Engineering, we are proud to support learning and development opportunities that strengthen collaboration across the design and manufacturing process.
