Substation connecting offshore generation to the national grid – steel-framed by Caunton

The East Anglia TWO Offshore windfarm project by ScottishPower Renewables includes plans for an onshore substation near the village of Friston, close to Leiston in Suffolk.

Caunton Engineering is very pleased to have been awarded the contract for the structural steelwork by Taylor Woodrow Infrastructure Ltd for this substation. The project comprises four portal framed buildings, one of which has an overhead crane, requiring over 400te of structural steelwork.

The East Anglia TWO project is a key part of Britain’s renewable energy future. Delivered by Taylor Woodrow for ScottishPower Renewables, this development supports the UK’s transition to net zero by enabling clean offshore wind energy to be transmitted to homes and businesses across the country.

Located off the Suffolk coast, the East Anglia TWO offshore wind farm will generate up to 960MW of electricity, enough to power nearly one million homes. Taylor Woodrow is responsible for the onshore substation works, a vital component in connecting offshore generation to the national grid.

This project is a cornerstone of the UK’s clean energy infrastructure, helping to decarbonise electricity generation while creating skilled employment and regional investment. Caunton is proud to be playing a part in this.
