Gavin’s journey with Caunton began when he came for a summer placement whilst at University. This gave him a taste of the structural steelwork industry, which subsequently led to him joining the company a year later as a graduate engineer.

He started in the design department, later broadening his experience with a move into sales, gaining valuable commercial insight through involvement in design and build tenders. Returning to the design team, Gavin went on to lead a wide range of projects across the commercial, data centre, distribution and logistics, energy, and retail sectors. Also, during this time, Caunton’s graduate training programme assisted in Gavin’s development, resulting in him achieving chartered engineer status with the ICE.

He was promoted to Assistant Technical Manager in 2016, then Technical Manager, and now steps into the role of Technical Director in 2025.

In addition to overseeing the technical direction of our projects, Gavin continues to play a key role in mentoring and developing our next generation of engineers, while also acting as the go-to person for technical input and guidance across the business.
